We're exploring a few different strategies for producing an archive of the Radical Archives conference. One is the traditional video and photo documentation. Another is the podcasts of some conference sessions and keynotes that will go out via media partner Creative Time Reports. Another is two projects developed specifically for the conference, which will take different approaches. First, Anna Levy and Senait Tesfai (trained as rapporteurs and oral historians) will be interviewing some presenters using oral history techniques. If you are particularly interested in being interviewed, please let us know (RA at radicalarchives dot net).
Second, the SPAN collective (Carol Stakenas and Jules Rochielle) will be holding Listening Sessions at the A/P/A seminar room (8 Washington Mews, lower level) from 4-7 pm on Friday and 3-6 pm on Saturday. These are in-depth interviews built around a common set of questions, meant to get a sense of the range of ways that conference participants approach the notion and practice of radical archiving. The listening sessions will be transcribed and shared via the website after the conference. We will send out an email to conference presenters with available appointment times, but walk-ins from all conference attendees are very welcome.
We are also looking for audience members who are interested in taking notes (in whatever format and volume you like) and making them public as part of a collection of audience impressions of the conference. Let us know either before, during or after the conference if you're interested in contributing your notes.
Out of town conference participants
If you’re coming in from out of town for the conference, thanks and apologies for the lack of travel funding!
We recommend the artist-organized Listings Project for those who might want to find a reasonably priced, friendly place to stay. Or, if you’re an in-town panelist and willing to host one of your fellow out-of-town panelists, please let us know.
If you are lucky enough to have institutional travel funding, NYU has standing discounts with these hotels.
Please format all AV materials at 1280 x 720 pixels and submit as JPEGs, Mac-formatted TIFFs, MOVs, MP3s, or Powerpoints with all media embedded. All media will be presented from a Mac laptop.
